Overview

Background & Policy context

By targeting the deployment of sustainable alternative fuels for transport, the Action is contributing to the objectives of the European Green Deal.

Objectives

The objective of the Action is to contribute to the electrification of the Seine axis by deploying a network of 78 electricity and water terminals with an interoperable system, accessible to all types of vessels along the Seine River.

As a result, once completed, the Action will contribute to reducing CO2 emissions, air and noise pollution for local residents and boat owners and improving competitiveness of inland waterway transport by cutting down fuel and maintenance costs. The Action will contribute to the electrification of a significant part of the Atlantic and North Sea-Mediterranean corridors of the Trans-European Transport Network. Thanks to the Action, the Seine will become the first European river to offer on shore power supply throughout its length by 2023.

Methodology

Terminals will be installed in the Ports of Paris, Rouen and, Le Havre and in a number of locations (such as docks or locks) managed by Voies Navigables de France.
