Imatra Border Crossing Development
Being one of the main road transit connections between Russia and the European Union, Imatra-Svetogorsk border crossing point is extremely busy.
During 2013, over 2.5 million people and over 100,000 trucks crossed the border at Imatra. In last ten years volume of traffic at Imatra border crossing point has doubled. In 2014 the economical situation in Russia and EU has effected to traffic flow in border crossing points. At this point traffic flow is not that high as expected in the beginning of this project in 2012. When economical situation recovers, it is estimated that in following years volume of traffic in border crossing points will increase 5-8 % per year.
On the Finnish side, the overall facilities of the Imatra border crossing point were inadequate and formed a bottleneck in the traffic.

There was also the need to strengthen the capacity of this crossing infrastructure.
Nuijamaa Border Crossing Development (Phase I and Phase II)
Nuijamaa-Brusnitshnoje is the second busiest border crossing point between Finland and Russia and one of the main road transit connections between Russia and the European Union.
During 2013, over 3.6 million people and over 1.3 million vehicles (over 200,000 trucks) crossed the border at Nuijamaa. In last ten-year period volume of traffic in BCP (border crossing point) has almost doubled.
On the Finnish side the Nuijamaa border crossing point has had too few checking lanes and insufficient customs and border control capacity especially for passenger cars and busses.
Vainikkala - Simola Rehabilitation
Old Vainikkala - Simola road did not serve the needs of the growing traffic volumes relating to the international railway crossing point between Finland and Russia in its current state, as it was too narrow and winding and had a low speed limit.
Since 2010, when the fast railway connection was opened between Helsinki and St. Petersburg, the passenger traffic to Lappeenranta via Vainikkala has increased by about 10%.
Imatra Border Crossing Development
The project's overall objective was to construct new customs and border control buildings, extend the transport areas, and acquire adequate equipment in order to remove the long queues of trucks from the highways (main road 6 and trunk road 62) and improve the safety of all road users.
Imatra-Svetogorsk Railway Border Crossing’s Development
Overall objective of the project was to strengthen local and regional sustainable economic development in the program area by facilitating the process of upgrading the status of Svetogorsk - Imatra border crossing and its essential infrastructure studies.
Specific objectives were carrying out a railway study revealing and justifying the needs of infrastructure and border traffic management changes basing on significant modifications in railway cargo patterns (redistribution) between South Finland and Russia; elaborating the experts estimates on export-import and transit cargo via Imatra - Svetogorsk and recommendations on Imatra - Svetogorsk railway stations and Imatra - Svetogorsk Border Crossing (BC) development.

The project's overall objective was to extend the transport area and construct new customs and border control lanes to better manage the increasing traffic volumes and improve the safety of all road users.
Vainikkala - Simola Rehabilitation
The project's overall objective was to rehabilitate the road to improve conditions for regional development and business operations, such as the usability of flight connections to and from Lappeenranta, as well as the safety of all road users.
