Overview
The TUGA project developed the necessary elements for the construction of a tug for assisting the navigation and maneuvering of ships in restricted waters. In order to reduce the environmental impact, the vehicle was equipped with a liquefied gas propulsion system.
Results
The correct arrangement of the fuel containment system and optimisation of its geometries was researched and compliance with safety requirements was verified. The analysis was supplemented by the research and implementation of a calculation code to assess the dynamic balance in escort operations. The project also developed software tools for simulating the rigid motion of the tugboat subject to hydrodynamic towing and propulsion forces. The results were validated in a relevant environment through research activities and experimental tests in a naval tank.
