These two Horizon Prizes try to stimulate a new way of tackling air pollution in our cities.

 Today's engines have been designed with the minimum required consideration for emissions, just enough to pass the tests.

The rules of the two Horizon Prizes propose instead a more ambitious metric that would deliver larger and faster improvements.

Can you think of another way of optimising that keeps pollution better under control? Can you think of new devices that reduce pollution without worsening other parameters or achieving a better compromise?
