Overview
The SIDRAN project aimed to create a highly interactive integrated system that uses immersive virtual reality technologies to implement the visualisation of three-dimensional technical drawings developed in CAD. It makes the iterative process of naval design review more effective and efficient. This system provides innovative features for a more effective design review mode and reduces the duration and cost of the design and production process. The development of this system is essential to facilitate the active inclusion of stakeholders in the ship design process.
Results
SIDRAN allows the integration of innovative hardware and software modules capable of incorporating a variety of CAD formats used in vessel and mechanical design and of providing Digital Mock-Ups (DMUs) that can also be examined in remote multi-user mode. These are usable through innovative immersive design review tools such as annotation of 3D properties and information exchanged between users, logging, manipulation and 3D property measurement/selection systems, 3D pointers, comment annotation systems and recording sessions of DR and other fundamental operations for ship design.
