Overview

Background & Policy context

Asphalt layers of a pavement have to fulfil different requirements depending on their position in a pavement structure. Ensuring safety of traffic is one of essential task of asphalts for wearing courses. Texture of pavement surface is important from this point of view. The texture pre-determines skid resistance characteristics of surface and quality level of contact between a wheel of a vehicle and a pavement. Requirements concerning physical-mechanical parameters are taken into account in design process of asphalts for wearing courses and demands for texture are not a priority objective.

Objectives

Main aim of proposed research is an analysis of influence of material composition of asphalts that are used for wearing courses on geometric and physical characteristics of pavement surface texture. Second aim is  to provide a research concerning influence of pavement surface texture on noise emissions. Third aim is an investigation of influence of material composition of asphalts on generation of particulate pollutants.
