Overview

Background & Policy context

It is  needed  to build a multipurpose objects on the transport infrastructure to meet the needs of sufficient throughput for the wildlife.

Objectives

A main objective  of this research project was a processing of  the database in MS Access, which contains various objects on the motorway and rail network in the South and Central Moravia and their evaluation in terms of throughput for wildlife.

Further objective of the project was creation of a database of bridges and culverts in the catchment area of Moravia which is needed for  evaluation of the throughput of objects on new roads going into operation in the years 2004-2008. It was the D1 motorway section Vyškov - Morice (total length 17.5 kilometers) and high-speed road R48 Dobrá - Tošanovice (total length 24 km).

Results

The main output of this project  are:

  1. A methodology "Measures to reduce the fragmentation of transport infrastructure sites", which provides guidance  for tackling the fragmentation of transport infrastructure sites and the related impact of  the routes on the biodiversity of the area.
  2. A database in MS Access, which contains various objects on the motorway and rail network in the South and Central Moravia and their evaluation in terms of throughput for wildlife. The individual database objects (bridges and culverts) were processed as geo-layer and thus are useful in GIS.
