Background & Policy context

The ERTMS Platform provides the unique forum, as part of UIC’s global mission, where high-level managers, directly responsible for ERTMS in their respective networks, meet and exchange ideas in an environment which is exclusively reserved for railway members and comprehensively informed through the attendance of the key responsible representatives from the ERA ERTMS working group, ERTMS Users Group, UIC working groups (ERTMS Regional, GSM-R and Interlockings) and Chairman of the UIC Panel of Signalling and Telecom Experts.

The objectives of the project are as follows:

  • To provide the secretariat to the Platform in terms of preparation of the agenda, minutes and dissemination of recommendations, under the direction of the Platform Chairman
  • To provide expertise in the ETCS, GSM-R and Interlockings by "chargé de mission" located in Paris in order to produce one focal point for UIC programme activity.
  • To organise  the ERTMS annual conference 2009 from the logistic and scientific point of view (ERTMS annual conferences have always been managed by UIC)
  • To ensure a strong cohesive link with other UIC related activities such as the UIC panel of Signalling and Telecommunications experts
  • To enable relevant information to be prepared for consideration of the ERTMS Platform

Plaform activities are linked to ERTMS implementations, ERA activities, programme of work with UIC, CER, EIM and ERTMS Users Group, ETCS, ERTMS Regional, GSM-R and Euro-Interlocking projects.
