Overview
The two different benchmarking areas of LICB are:
- Maintenance and renewal expenditures jointly analysed as an integrated life-cycle-cost approach for the entire railway networks.
- Investment costs compared for track renewal projects.

For a benchmark exercise in general a clear and consistent understanding of the terms used is very important. Misinterpretation could lead to a different data input, so that the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) worked out in the project are not based on the same ground.
The Glossary Data collection and analyses are carried out by the Infrastructure Department of UIC. Work is monitored and assisted by the working group of IMs from the participating railways. Some selected evaluations and results are presented in annual summary reports, a more detailed document, with data evaluations and charts, is also produced, but restricted to LICB working group members.
