Overview

Background & policy context:

The Action is part of the broader LNGHIVE2 project, the Spanish flagship initiative for LNG maritime fuel deployment in Southern Europe. It notably complements the CEF co-funded Action LNGHIVE2 Vessels Demand, which also aims at retrofitting vessels to run on LNG. This Action has been selected in the context of the CEF blending facility where the CEF support is coupled with a financial investment of approximatively €11 million.

Objectives:

The objective of the Action is to retrofit the propulsion system of the Hedy Lamarr vessel in order for it to be operable with LNG. This Action contributes to supporting the deployment of LNG in the Mediterranean Core Ports by ensuring a growing demand side. In particular, the ro-pax Hedy Lamarr ship is currently operating in the Valencia–Palma route, linking 2 Core ports.
