Overview
Knowledge of the behaviour and sources of particulate matter is important to organise prevention strategies. Also, the health effects of particulate matter can depend on its source.
The goal of this project (NorDust, a Nordic cooperation project) is to understand the sources of particulate matter related to traffic, in particular due to wear, thereby increasing the effectiveness of mitigation measures. For this purpose development of a Nordic model of dust pollution will be continued, in which particulates from emissions and other factors relating to traffic have been separated.
The data from the model will be compared to historical and current monitoring and the model will also be compared to other models to corroborate the results. The effects of weather on the concentration of particulate pollution will also be investigated separately. This project is part of the Nordic NorDust project (NordFoU).
Part of the NordFoU project
The main objective and purpose NorDust project are:
- To know and understand the sources of particulate matter from traffic to plan mitigation.
- To be able to take account of the impact of weather in modelling emission concentrations of particulate pollution from traffic.
