Overview

Objectives:

Use of biological motor-alcohols could reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases from the transport sector. In addition it could contribute to a reduction in the emissions of several compounds harmful for the local and regional environment. In the Nordic countries Norway, Sweden and Finland there are vast wood resources from the forests that can form the basis for production of both methanol and ethanol. Such production is even taking place today as by- or side-products in wood-processing industries. In all three countries several studies have substantiated that available wood resources are large enough to achieve a substantial substitution of fossil fuel use in the whole transport sector.
