Overview

Objectives

The Action, involving two Member States and a neighbouring country, aimed at implementing an innovative ICT traffic management platform for inland waterway transport to improve the overall logistic processes on the upper Rhine. It was located on the Rhine - Alpine Core Network Corridors and enhanced modal shift with road and railway transport.

The Action included pilot deployment in 9 inland ports: an ICT traffic management platform at three ports in France, Germany and Switzerland; the feasibility study for the roll-out of the ICT traffic management platform at six other ports along the Upper Rhine and the conceptual design for the functional and geographical extension of the platform to non-containerised cargo, rail and truck hinterland traffic.

The Action led to higher efficiency in the inland waterway logistic processes as well as to lower CO2 emissions by a reduction of waiting times for ships and better capacity utilisation.
