Overview
Objectives:
The PLASTICO project aimed to formulate a new polymer matrix composite for the production of a marine engine cover in order to meet the reference regulatory requirements (SOLAS).
Methodology:
The multifunctional material was designed as a substitute for aluminum, currently in use, and is characterised by the following characteristics:
- low weight,
- sound absorption,
- mechanical,
- thermal and flame resistance,
- thermal insulation, and
- low volatility.
