Overview
The Action is part of a global project to develop Port Sector 4 at the Core maritime Port of Trieste, located both on the Baltic-Adriatic and Mediterranean Core Network Corridors. The port plans to expand its facilities to accommodate future demand in an efficient and sustainable way, since it registered considerable growth in total throughput and intermodal transport.
The global project comprises the redevelopment of Servola Steel Factory, the construction of a multipurpose Hub (“PLT”), a new container terminal (Pier VIII), and a rail terminal for trains up to 750 metres long, serving the PLT and Pier VIII. It will take into account all environmental impacts and mitigation measures, the integration of IT port community resources with rail operations, as well as the construction of an LNG facility serving both Port Terminals and hinterland productive areas.
The Action is the second phase of the Global Project’s deployment, namely the final design of the shunting station and the environmental impact assessment for both the station and the new container terminal on Pier 8. It also includes the studies and designs for the integration of IT port community resources with rail operations. In addition, the Action will study and design the LNG storage and bunkering facility serving the maritime and road sectors.
