Overview
Improving road safety and reducing the number of road accidents, and thus the number of fatalities and injuries in this area, has been a key objective of the Federal Government for many years. Particularly at interfaces of different responsibilities in the recording of accidents, e. g. between police and transport companies, deviations occur according to relevant experience.
A lack of standards on the part of transport companies or a lack of definition of interfaces between the databases make it difficult, or even impossible, to secure accident records and to combine accident data from different sources. This leads to an incomplete picture of the situation with regard to the real dangerous situation. This significantly impedes a well-founded and reliable scientific analysis and thus the targeted and effective development of measures to improve traffic safety in connection with tram accidents, since, for example, areas that are prone to accidents cannot be located correctly.
The project aims at identifying potential obstacles and possible ways to standardise and digitalise the recording and processing of accidents in the case of tramway accidents at the transport companies. At the same time, the interfaces to the police accident recording system must be processed and defined in order to enable the various data records to be combined in the sections relevant for a comprehensive accident analysis in a simple and complete way. Moreover, special requirements for the evaluation of disturbance management required by the transport companies' operations must be taken into account.
Moreover, the project aims to improve road safety by providing secure and complete statistical data for an effective and targeted analysis of tram accidents. At the same time, the results for accident recording of road-bound public transport accidents and for police accident recording in general. The knowledge gained should serve as a basis for the further development of suitable software.
