Background & policy context:

Through the use of economic instruments in transport policy comes a big weight to assessing the impact of taxes on the development of effective market prices of goods transport services. Systematic assessment of price developments in the freight transport does not exist in Switzerland until now. A rough concept and also more detailed concept of this assessment has been created. Pilot surveys in individual markets were carried out in 2000 and the baseline survey was completed in 2001.

Objectives:

The aim of the project is the development and implementation of the producer price index for the Swiss freight. The results should be available in a form that is endorsed by the section "Producer and Import Price Index", their production process and in the database PRESTA.

Methodology:

A rought and more detailed concepts of the systematic assessment of price developments in the freight transport were proposed in line with results of the pilot surveys.
