Overview

Background & Policy context

The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and the Fraunhofer institutes ICT, ISOB, ISI and IWM, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, and the FZI Research Center for Information Technology are working together to establish a profile region for mobility systems. This will strengthen their common goal of developing Karlsruhe into a clearly visible centre for mobility research. This further advances a development that can already build on preliminary groundwork and existing structures, but that has been missing its own institutional framework up to now. Establishing a profile region is intended to put Karlsruhe firmly on the map both nationally and internationally as an important location for the research, implementation and teaching of mobility concepts and make it even more attractive to top researchers, students and companies.

Objectives

Karlsruhe stands for the development and implementation of future-oriented mobility solutions, technologies and methods whose practical feasibility will be tested in the profile region and which have globalization potential.
The profile region is THE think tank for smart, efficient, integrated and technically and socio-technically optimal mobility solutions.
By intensifying the cooperation of important stakeholders from research, academia, companies and Karlsruhe citizens, forward-looking concepts and projects are created which further enhance the innovative power of the region. A new type of educational concept in the field of mobility strengthens the attractiveness of Karlsruhe as a location for students from all over the world, especially women, and contributes to making the profile region an excellent teaching, training and educational location in the field of mobility. By intensifying the cooperation with partner regions like Stuttgart, Baden-Wuerttemberg will be strengthened in the long term as a center of the automobile industry in the field of mobility, but also in production research, logistics etc.
