Replacement of bridges under traffic (AGB2001/472)
Overview
Background & policy context:
Transport infrastructure degrades over time. Even with proper routine maintenance, heavy interventions are often required such as total or partial re-decking, borders, or change of expansion joints. Moreover, traffic growth requires infrastructure extensions and bridge replacements. Such work usually involves significant restrictions of traffic. These restrictions, which may concern the bridge or potential traffic below, create some dissatisfaction of users and are sources of accidents. It is therefore important to minimize time inconvenience of road traffic.
Objectives:
The goals of this work are summarized as follows:
First, define the characteristics and special requirements related to traffic under bridges replacements based on the Swiss and foreign experiences in this field.
Next, define or identify solutions that meet the specific criteria for these activities.
Finally, solving specific technical problems related to these new approaches and propose innovative solutions.
Methodology:
Literature research, interview with experts, national and international investigation, data analysis, synthesis.
