Overview

Background & Policy context

Since 21 December 2007, Hungarian citizens have been able to cross the borders of the Schengen area without border control and not just at the border crossing points. Traffic is an important element of the modern economy. It is therefore necessary to adjust public transport systems.

Objectives

The aim of the project is the restoration of the relations between Agendorf and Schattendorf, which had been cut off from one another for decades by the Iron Curtain.

Within the scope of the project, the following results were achieved:

  • Restoration of the old roads between the villages and the associated infrastructure
  • Improving  of the regional accessibility of municipalities
  • Expansion of the cross-border cycling network
  • Restoring cultural and social relations

Policy objectives

The project served as a bases for improving of cross-border mobility.
