Overview
In Germany there are almost two million walkers. These play an important role in the everyday life of many people. In order to support individual mobility in the long term, the correct use of this aid must be learned correctly and practised continuously. It is particularly important to effectively prevent latent postural defects and acute danger of falling.
In the project "ModESt", distance sensors for posture detection are integrated with software-based algorithms to identify possible misuse. Posture errors can thus be detected in real time and corrected by discreet sensory feedback.
The electronics box integrated into the frame and developed in the project is a durable and reliable innovative solution for posture corrections when using walkers. With this compact and cost-effective solution,"ModESt" will in the future help to fundamentally improve the use of such aids and create real added value in the mobile everyday life of many people. In addition, the information recorded under strict data protection criteria enables doctors to carry out a thorough analysis of the progress of therapies to regain freedom of movement.
The solution is implemented in a new electronic box, which is directly integrated into the frame of the walker.
