Background & Policy context

SKEMA was a three year project funded by the European Commission (DGTREN) under the Seventh Framework Programme. It was aimed at establishing a Sustainable Knowledge Platform for the use of stakeholders in the Maritime Transport & Logistics industry.

Objectives

SKEMA aims to establish a Sustainable Knowledge Platform for use by policy makers and stakeholder groups in the European Maritime and Logistics Industry. This Knowledge Platform will contain a Knowledge Base that will be populated by studies and outputs from Thematic Activities addressing key challenges for the European maritime transport and logistics industry.

Methodology

SKEMA will gather information from various sources and will convert this into valuable knowledge.

Results

The SKEMA project has established a Sustainable Knowledge Platform to be used by policy makers and stakeholder groups in the European Maritime and Logistics Industry. The SKEMA Knowledge Platform is now online containing a Knowledge Base populated by Consolidation Studies, associated Periodic Studies and outputs from Thematic Activities addressing key challenges for the European maritime transport and logistics industry. The studies are constructed to facilitate improved usability and accessibility of valuable results from previous projects, studies & publications.

The SKEMA Knowledge Platform contains a Knowledge Base addressing key challenges for the European maritime transport and logistics industry. In essence, SKEMA has gathered dispersed and unstructured information and converted this into valuable knowledge.

The SKEMA Knowledge Platform will act as a key source of knowledge for European maritime transport and logistics stakeholders. In this way, it will stimulate the development of a growing network of users representing business and public organisations who contribute to its sustainable development.
