Overview
The coordination of traffic at traffic lights under traffic-directing measures is very important for the reduction of waiting times, congestion, fuel consumption and air pollutant emissions (nitrogen oxides NOx and volatile organic compounds).
The aims of the project are as follows:
- to develop and set the methods and benefits of coordination of transport at traffic signals
- to provide a research report
- to work out first draft standard

The research report defines the principles for the design and evaluation of the coordination of traffic nodes managed by an installation of light signalling; it also determines whether coordination is preferable to a single operation.
If a solution of coordination cannot be found, the critical points to improve, reaching both the operation, organization or construction, are then clearly highlighted.
