Overview

Background & policy context:

TIGER DEMO is the continuation of the TIGER project and is set to take the four TIGER pilots into a full scale demonstration for subsequent market uptake commercial exploitation. The TIGER project is a Large Scale Integrated Collaborative Project for the development of Rail transport in competitive and co-modal freight logistics chains.

Objectives:

TIGER DEMO and TIGER are two separate projects, but are part of the same overall initiative. The TIGER DEMO objective is the demonstration of innovative technological and management solutions, capable of optimising the containers traffic flows to/from major European ports. TIGER DEMO will define new production processes, technological alternatives, new business models supported by management tools in order to improve the effective performances and competitiveness of the rail connections between seaports and their near and distant hinterlands.

Methodology:

TIGER DEMO will accompany the original TIGER pilots into full scale demonstrators. During the Full Scale Demonstration, TIGER DEMO will manage the various services fine tuning, as their effective performances are fundamental for achieving the full commercial exploitation in the market place.

The TIGER DEMO project is constituted by the following four demonstrators:

  • GENOA FAST CORRIDOR
  • MARIPLAT
  • INNOVATIVE PORT & HINTERLAND OPERATIONS
  • INTERMODAL NETWORK 2015

TIGER DEMO is planning co-modal solutions for maritime traffic flows in four different geographical locations of Europe. Such solutions take into consideration both the geographical peculiarities of each zone and their operational environment. These planned solutions are set to overcome the challenges represented by the need of finding the right balance between natural barriers, infrastructures availability, local characteristics, competitive reach, hinterland penetration, costs/services competitiveness and, last but not least, environmental protection.
