Overview
In 1979 - shortly before the opening of the Gotthard road tunnel - the Federal Council commissioned the Service for Transport Studies to examine systematically the impact of this building on freight transport. For the purposes of monitoring the survey was repeated in 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999 and 2004. Further survey is scheduled for 2009.
The data from the surveys in the field of European transalpine long-distance freight transport form a consistent time series. The continual monitoring of the Gotthard Road Tunnel is very important for the overall presentation of European freight transport.
Moreover 40 t vehicle limits and other measures of the bilateral land transport agreement have since 1999 changed the boundary conditions for the transalpine freight traffic fundamentally. And some other tunnels e.g. Lötschberg base tunnel were opened.
The aim of this contract is the preparation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the project "Survey for transalpine freight transport CH 2009". Main result of the is production of consistent evaluable data records.
The project must primarily develop a well-supported database for the current state of the transalpine freight traffic.
