Overview

Objectives:

This Action is part of a Global Project aiming at the development and upgrade of the existing 'Motorways of the Sea' link between the core network ports of Helsinki and Tallinn. Separated by 80 kilometres, these ports play a key role in the European transport network and connect the North Sea–Baltic to the Scandinavian-Mediterranean core network corridors.

Methodology:

This Action aims at upgrading the efficiency of this maritime link and will result in reducing the environmental externalities of RoRo traffic sailing the route as well as upgrading the port infrastructure and in hinterland connections. It is a continuation of the previously funded CEF-T “TWIN-PORT III”, "TWIN-PORT II" and TEN-T "TWIN-PORT" Actions (see: 2017-EU-TM-0135-W, 2014-EU-TM-0087-M & 2012-EU-21011-P).

In particular, the present Action will develop the SmartPort system for passenger and cargo transport flows in the Port of Helsinki, install a double ramp in the Vuosaari harbour, enable automooring in Katajanokka EK7 and on-shore power supply in South Harbour EO2.

In the Port of Tallinn, the gangway to quay No 5 will be reconstructed in Old City Harbour, a double ramp will be installed in quay number 13 at Muuga Harbour and the public area before terminal D in Old City Harbour will be reconstructed thereby improving the hinterland connection of the port.
