Overview

Background & Policy context

Young people in Medjimurje who live in suburbs and small towns are due to poor supply in public transport, disadvantages of cycling infrastructure and lack of information on how to achieve greater personal mobility, subjected to isolation, the unavailability of various cultural, sports and social facilities, and therefore fewer opportunities personal development.

Objectives

The project "Alternative Mobility" deals with a change of this situation, the education of secondary and primary schools students  on environmental, energy and safety effects of traffic and use of renewable energy in transport. The project is  promoting a volunteering among young people and developing creative volunteer activities aimed at promoting cycling and hiking. 

Methodology

"Alternative Mobility" will offer information to young people  about public transport, the possibilities of combining public transport and cycling. Just a few of the activities that the project will implement are - education of young people on environmental, energy and safety effects of traffic and use of renewable energy in transport in primary and secondary schools, with a focus on alternative mobility, devising creative volunteer activities to be carried out by young students of secondary schools in Medjimurje, but are related to energy security and the effects of traffic, promotion of public transport, cycling and hiking.

Results

The entire project have included workshops informing about how to  educate young teachers on alternative mobility which will then transfer their knowledge to others in Međimurje County through lectures in primary and secondary schools.

Through voluntary actions and design school Biciklopopravljaona, young people will see practice and  popularize alternative mobility.  Cooperation with the Međimurje Police Department will encourage the networking high schools, civil society organizations and public institutions to increase the ecological, energy and efficient system of alternative mobility.

The project has released an educational brochure for young people "Youth and mobility in Medjimurje".
