Welcome to the January edition of the Transport Research and Innovation Monitoring and Information System (TRIMIS) Newsletter. TRIMIS is an online platform for policy makers and researchers to share and discuss innovation in transport and mobility in Europe.

To start the year, we highlight two recent entries from the TRIMIS database:

• 'Policy embraces connected and automated vehicles as a tool to solve transport problems. But are people on board?', a policy brief which provides:
  – insights about citizens’ expectations and concerns on connected and automated vehicles;
  – an analysis of worldwide media articles that refer to connected and automated cars, which helps to understand the perception of citizens and media.

• A TRIMIS report on ‘Research and innovation in vehicle design and manufacturing in Europe’, which provides a comprehensive analysis of research and innovation (R&I) initiatives in Europe in this field, and identifies relevant researched technologies by their transport mode and phase of development.

This year is the European Year of Rail and we provide information on the launch event of this European Commission initiative that aims to encourage the use of rail, which is one of the most sustainable, innovative and safest transport modes.

We also include details of the recently updated 2020 edition of the Strategic Transport Research and Innovation Agenda’s (STRIA) seven Roadmap factsheets.

In addition, we present a selection of projects and forthcoming events from the TRIMIS database. Some events will be delivered in an online format due to the ongoing travel restrictions.
