Overview

Following the announcement of an Automated and Electric Vehicles Bill in the Queen’s Speech, and the Government’s commitment to further develop the UK’s transport infrastructure and R&D, this seminar will consider the next steps for developing a smart transport system in the UK.

In light of the funding announcements on Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV), stemming from the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, the recently announced Government led first HGV ‘platooning’ trial and the launch of MERIDIAN as a testing hub for CAV, delegates will examine the future of public funding for driverless and autonomous vehicles and opportunities for attracting private investment. They will also consider challenges for developing an insurance regime fit for CAV, which also protects private and commercial road users.

Further sessions discuss the latest thinking and research on intelligent mobility, on ‘mobility-as-a-service’ within smart cities and local transport provision, and on the use of data and integration of technology to improve journeys and passenger experience.

Delegates will also review the provisions for cyber security and the priorities for protecting private data within intelligent transport systems.
