Overview

The Green Paper "Towards a new culture for urban mobility" has opened the debate on the key issues of urban mobility: free-flowing and greener towns and cities, smarter urban mobility and an urban transport which is accessible, safe and secure for all European citizens. With this Green Paper the Commission wants to identify, in partnership with all parties, possible actions to improve urban mobility. It speaks of a new culture for urban mobility and addresses also the issue of financing. It raises 25 questions on how to best address these issues.

The Green Paper marks the start of a new consultation phase until 15 March 2008. With this Green Paper the Commission wants to identify, in partnership with all parties, concrete measures to improve urban mobility. The Action Plan on urban mobility that will follow the consultation will present these measures in early autumn 2008. During this conference, after a presentation by the European Commission, panellists from cities, environmental organisations, public transport organisations and the industry, will debate on new proposals for possible action, allocation of responsibilities, etc. and share their thoughts for a new urban mobility culture. The discussion will contribute to the Action Plan for urban mobility.
