Commission and UK reach political agreement on UK participation in Horizon Europe and Copernicus

ANNOUNCEMENT

On 7 September 2023, an agreement was reached between the European Commission and the UK regarding the UK's participation in Horizon Europe (the EU's research and innovation programme) and Copernicus (the EU's world-leading Earth observation programme). 

The solution, which adheres to the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement, was reached following in-depth discussions among both parties. It promises to be beneficial to both the EU and the UK, strengthening their capacities in research, innovation and space. 

As a result, the UK are expected to contribute approximately €2.6 billion per year, on average, for its participation in both programmes.
