The European Commission has awarded €172 million to support 13 research and innovation projects focusing on the goals of REPowerEU. The projects intend to support affordable, secure and sustainable energy for Europe, while promoting EU energy independence.
The projects were selected following calls in March and April 2023 under Horizon Europe Cluster 5 (Climate, Energy and Mobility). Facilitating clean and competitive solutions for all transport modes was a key priority, along with creating a more sustainable energy supply and more inclusive energy use.
Among the list of funded projects were 2 projects facilitating operations of hydrogen-powered aviation and 3 projects facilitating the decarbonisation of the waterborne transport sector.
