Summary

On 9 October 2023, the European Commission adopted the ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation and the revised Renewable Energy Directive. These two pillars complete the 'Fit for 55' legislative package, putting the EU on track to deliver the climate targets and reduce EU net greenhouse gas emissions by 57% by 2030.

With the introduction of the RefuelEU Aviation Regulation, aviation fuel suppliers will be required to blend increasing amounts of sustainable aviation fuels with kerosene, rising to 70% in 2050.

These final additions to the 'Fit for 55' package have ensured that the EU climate targets now cover all key sectors of the economy.
