Overview
The Centre for Transportation Research and Innovation for People (TRIP) is a multidisciplinary research centre, funded by the PRTLI Programme of the Higher Education Authority, based in TCD with a link to UCC.
The aim of TRIP is to develop and deliver cohesive and dynamic interdisciplinary activity on all aspects of transport research, but in particular in the following areas:
- ICT in transportation
- Balancing transportation supply and demand
- Quality of life
- Safety
- Environmental impacts of transportation
TRIP aims to radically change the approach to transport research which has tended in the past to follow the formula of applying one discipline to a research question. All research projects within the TRIP Centre will involve at least two disciplines working at an active level on the same research problem, the aim of which is to stimulate transport research to evolve more holistically.
The following departments and disciplines provide a combined and innovative approach to transport research as part of the TRIP Centre:
- Civil, Structural & Environmental Engineering
- Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering
- Computer Science
- Electronic and Electrical Engineering
- Geography
- Psychology
- Economics
Funding
The TRIP programme has received EUR 2 million from the PRTLI (Programme for Research at Third Level Institutions) which is in turn funded by the National Development Plan. The PRTLI provides integrated support for institutional strategies, programmes and infrastructure. The programmes is competitive. Calls for proposals are issued to all publicy funded third level institutions.
