Overview
Significant progress has been made in the reduction of polluting emissions from vehicles: direct emissions from private vehicles have been reduced, certain emissions from diesel vehicles can be limited with specific filters. However, progress still has to be made in noise and pollution reduction, and energy consumption and dependency.
This group's mission is to continue the advances achieved in the last few years in designing land vehicles that are less polluting, less noisy and more energy-efficient, by studying and developing components, functions and architectures for which applications can be generic.
This operational group is organised around five themes:
- Fuel-combustion-depollution system: thermal engines represent 99% of vehicle engines. This situation will continue at least up to 2015. Current technical improvements and innovation in this field is needed.
- Reductions in noise emission from vehicles: noise analysis, modelling, research of solutions/innovations to reduce noise.
- Electric engines.
- Electronic power: in order to stimulate the use of electric power, competitive electronic components for vehicles should be developed.
- Small vehicles, motorcycles and mopeds: reduce pollution from these vehicles.
