Overview
France's rail infrastructure needs to be used in an optimal way in order to ensure the lasting development of the transport system. This includes the direction to follow concerning the development of technologies for rail equipment and high-speed trains. Trains should become cheaper, less noisy and more environmentally friendly, and continue to improve performance by tilting technologies and increases in engine power.
The significant growth of freight in Europe requires the improvement of rail freight productivity, because rail is the most suitable mode to comply with this demand. Predit helps projects concerning braking and remote control of locomotives to permit the operation of longer trains. The development of a high performance diesel locomotive is underway.
