Overview
The aim of the project is to improve practical education and the attractiveness of electric traction, rolling stock and rail transport fields of study for students of technical universities, as well as related disciplines for students of high schools. As was shown in the recent years, the practical training of students of electrical and mechanical engineering, as well as transportation engineering faces a range of legislative and organizational problems. Practical and interactive contacts with such difficult fields of study are required, while denied to most of students. Development of advanced computer locomotive simulator can offer students this interactive and safe approach and accessment of practical problems of railway and traction drives. The simulator will also contribute to the attractiveness of study fields, which are currently required by industry again.

Project has introduced a complete package of software and hardware enablement solutions for development of a train/locomotive simulator with an interactive cab-based interface. Simulation models have been developed to model the real locomotive performance. A set of hardware solutions are introduced to make cab-based interface with controllers and gauges easily connectable with a computer. The whole system is developed as an open-source and made available to public.
