Overview

Objectives

The project covered basic research for an integrated system for reduction of the impact on the ecosystem caused by polluting emissions (SOx, NOx, PM) from ship discharges into the atmosphere.

Methodology

The project was divided into four main research lines:

  • RB1: Methods for the evaluation and reduction of gas emissions caused by motor systems of ships employed on the Motorways of the Sea;
  • RB2: Technological solutions to evaluate and reduce emissions gaseous pollutants and reduce side effects of treatment;
  • RB3: Checking and optimizing processes to reduce emissions and models of calculation of installations with low emissions;
  • RB4: Experimental analysis of abatement of gaseous emissions and demonstration, with the assessment of costs and benefits.

Results

On November 19, 2010, at the headquarters of CNR ISSIA Genoa was held the meeting of the project partners during which it was examined the current situation and were laid the foundations and set the timetable for future activities to be carried out.

The project reached the end on its third year. By virtue of the 18-month extension granted by the Ministry, the project activities ended July 2, 2012.
