The main goal of the project is to develop a system (a detector ´AXIO´) for continuous / on-line measurement of distances between rail vehicles, which are steady or which are moving in relation to the place of installation. This will lead to increased safety of rail transport and transport infrastructure.

The AXIO tool should be useful for:

1. measurement of fullfilment of rail tracks used in the systems for hump yard automatization (not required a safe solution) and

2. determining a point of optimal activation of a warning signal, ensuring constant warning time (to require secure solutions, the system must be designed for fail-safe manners, any failure must not deactivate the warning signal at the grade of crossing).
