Overview
Background & Policy context
The BIOSIRE Project worked with shifting the focus in tourist areas in Spain, Croatia, France, Greece, Italy and Austria towards bio-diesel and electric vehicles for their fleets, ships and special vehicles.
Objectives
BIOSIRE had the following two objectives:
- To reach a shift towards bio-fuels and electric propulsion in tourist areas based on close co-operation among regional stakeholders.
- To disseminate and transfer outputs and lessons to other tourist areas.
Methodology
The BIOSIRE Project took a local approach and established local working groups with main actors and stakeholders, and developed some common process steps that were to be taken by these groups.
Results
The BIOSIRE Project produced the following outcomes:
- A database containing best practices and a draft implementation handbook on the topics of bio-diesel and electric vehicles in tourist regions;
- It reached a measurable shift towards bio-diesel and electric vehicles in the partaking regions of the project;
- It produced a evaluation and policy recommendation report based on an integrated analysis of the implementation processess in the BIOSIRE regions;
- It produced reports on the potential for market transformation towards more energy efficient transport in tourist areas.
Strategy targets
