Overview

Background & Policy context

Road safety is a significant societal problem. In the Czech Republic, about 1300 people die every year on roads and other thousands people are seriously or lightly injured. Road safety in motorist-advanced countries of Europe has become one of the basic indicators of development of the society.

Road safety professionals in these countries realized already long ago that the issue of traffic accidents cannot be passive. One of the possibilities to proactively solve problems of high numeber of traffic accidents and their negative impacts is an in-depth clinical analysis of accidents. This method is based on objective identification, analysis and then improvement of sites of frequent traffic accidents.

Objectives

The aim of the project is to develop methodology of the in-depth clinical analysis of accidents.

It focuses on finding of effective procedures for obtaining the necessary information about the causes, course and consequences of road accidents in terms of drivers, vehicles and roads. It consists of their systematic classification for use in practice, for design and implementation of transport-security measures, than of raising awareness of responsible government authorities, policy, car manufactures and car accessories, road managers, and other responsible stakeholders.
