Overview

Background & Policy context

In intralogistics, a major accident risk is caused by road vehicles. In 2010, there were more than 10,000 notifiable accidents in Germany. Against the backdrop of demographic change and the threat of skilled labor, maintaining the health of employees in logistics is becoming increasingly important. Accident-related failures cause a loss of know-how in addition to direct costs, which can often not be compensated above all in small and medium-sized enterprises.

Objectives

The project aims at developing a retrofittable, manufacturer-independent assistance system for industrial trucks. In the case of success, the system can significantly increase the safety of the work in intralogistics. Especially older employees with a decreasing responsiveness are thus actively supported. Further fields of application exist in a wide range of in-house applications with a direct interaction between people and technical systems.

Methodology

The technical basis is a sensor-actuator system, which connects people, goods and materials to each other. To prevent collisions, the system actively intervenes in the operation of the vehicle in the event of an emergency. Intelligent navigation solutions are also used to prevent potential accidental situations. The consideration of the relevant aspects of work and data protection is also ensured.
