Overview
Objectives
The project responds to the questions of CEDR Automation Call 2017: How will automation change the core business of NRA’s? In detail this means finding out what are the influences of automation on the core business in relation to road safety, traffic efficiency, the environment, customer service, maintenance and construction processes. Furthermore, how will the current core business on operations & services, planning & building and ICT change in the future? The core business includes at least the following functions:
- Operations & services: Incident & event management, other traffic management, road maintenance, winter maintenance, crisis management, traffic information provision
- Planning & building: road planning, road building, road works planning, physical road infrastructure
- ICT: digital infrastructure and ITS systems; In addition, for some European road operators also enforcement and tolling.
The work is divided in five work packages:
- Project management
- Deployment of automated functions up to 2040
- Impacts of automation functions on NRA policy targets
- Consequences of automation functions to infrastructure
- Changes in road operator core business
