Overview
Objectives:
The objective of the applied research is to develop a novel mouldable non-combustible silicone foam, offering an alternative to polyurethane foam upholstery. The developed foam has to meet the new fire safety standards EN45545 and BS6853.
The project involves a patent survey, the selection of appropriate silicon precursors and foaming technology applicable in industrial manufacturing, preferably moulding, and a construction of a mechanical uniaxial compression test machine for testing the endurance of silicone foam seat padding.
The mechanical properties and combustibility of the foams will be analysed.
