Overview

Objectives:

One of the causes of inefficiency, the diesel engine is the backbone of road mobility for people and goods. Therefore, it is a priority to identify sustainable alternative fuels with no usage restriction. Within the project, the selection and evaluation of 2nd generation biofuels has been carried out based on the criteria of expected sustainability and economy of production in addition to the engine suitability.

The potential within the engine system includes the aspects of efficiency and system complexity. It should be levied based on further consideration, including aftertreatment and exhaust gas heat recovery. In particular, since oxygenated biofuels offer advantageous properties in the processes "endothermic cleavage using exhaust heat", "low-soot combustion" and "HC-SCR", are the focus of selection on these fuels.
