Sustainable development of traffic implies an efficient management of funds for the construction, maintenance and repair of traffic infrastructure. Correct deciding about the future of transport networks is solvable by using the monitoring of the actual number of vehicles on the traffic roads. Without the actual load (number of vehicles that use the traffic roads) it is not possible to evaluate neither the importance nor the need and order of investments into the transport infrastructure. On the other hand, there is the safety of transport, which is essential for the implementation of transport as a system providing economic, cultural and social functioning of society. Safety of the transport and the number of vehicles are significantly related. Mutual influence is then expressed by the actual number of traffic accidents, that in connection with the number of vehicles, the technical condition of roads and traffic behaviour, significantly affects the traffic system to the selected road or transport route.
The project addresses the issue of permanent monitoring of roads and processes the data into an acceptable visual form. Displaying the results of monitoring into the general mapping environment allows the user an effective real time assessment and subsequent adoption of an objective decision. Process of safety and traffic fluency can actually be quantified and subsequently analysed. General outcomes are the basis of analyses for specialized management and decision making.
