Overview

Background & policy context:

Road traffic contributes significantly to the ambient noise pollution. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) permanent exposure to traffc noise can cause any  impact from pure nuisance to severe physical and mental health damages. Therefore, a continuous monitoring and ongoing improvement of the acoustic quality of traffic on major roads in and near settlement areas is needed.

Objectives:

Within the project, the technical aspects of introducing a surveillance system of the acoustic quality of roads are explored. The objective is to develop a vehicle-based measuring system to explore a broad data basis about the roadway condition.
