Overview
Objectives:
The project is aiming:
- To establish the % of accessibility of the road network for trucks loading up to 40 tons.
- To clarify and justify why some sections or zones are not accessible for such loading.
- To set up a map of the Swiss road network summarizing the above mentioned information.
Methodology:
By the end of April 1998, the Swiss Federal Highway Administration (ASTRA) sent a form to the chief engineers of the different cantons asking them to give the percentage of their network accessible to the 40 tons trucks.
Given answers must be synthesized in order to define where are the weak points (non-approachable to 40 tons) of our network geographically located and to support decision-making concerning potential measures to be set.
This synthesis may also elucidate the reasons why some zones are declared forbidden to 40 tons trucks.
