Overview
The "Koper-Divača" single-track railway line is part of the Mediterranean and Baltic-Adriatic Core Network Corridors and it currently represents a major bottleneck on the rail Core Network. The Action addresses a rehabilitation/upgrade of the railway section between the Dekani sub-station at 26,580km, and the Bivje junction at 28,068km. The Action is part of the Global Project covering the construction of the second track along the entire railway line "Koper-Divača" with the aim to increase capacity and interoperability of the line in order to meet the growing traffic demand.
The Action consists of works and studies. The works cover:
- Construction of a new second railway track
- Reconstruction of the existing railway track
- Construction of the power sub-station Hrastovlje
- ERTMS deployment
- Supervision
The studies subject to the Action address assessment of financing possibilities of the Global Project through Public Private Partnership (PPP) schemes.
The positive impacts of the Action will be achieved through increased capacity, safety and reliability of the upgraded railway line as well as shortening of travel times. As part of the Global Project, the Action will contribute to the elimination of a major bottleneck on the rail Core Network.
