Île-de-France deals with Green Buses
Overview
Background & policy context:
The Global Project will contribute significantly to the objectives of the European Green Deal with a 75% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2025 thanks to the renewal of the entire RATP bus fleet and the use of 100% of renewable bio-CNG guaranteed by certificates of origin.
This Action has been selected in the context of the CEF Blending facility Call, where the CEF support is coupled with a substantial investment by a financial institution.
Objectives:
The Action is part of the Bus2025 Global Project that involves the renewal of the entire RATP bus fleet and the conversion to electricity or Bio-CNG of the 25 bus depots located in the Paris region.
As a result, the Action will contribute to accelerating the large-scale roll-out of fossil fuel free bio-CNG and battery electric buses to decarbonise public transport in the Paris region, located along the Atlantic and North Sea-Mediterranean corridors.
Methodology:
The Action consists of works to install electrical and bio-CNG charging infrastructure in 9 existing bus depots in the Paris region, namely, 4 for a new fleet of bio-CNG buses and 5 with charging infrastructure for a new fleet of battery-electric buses. The Action will also support the acquisition of 303 electric buses.
